A well-established educational institution in Vadodara was expanding its campus with a new academic block. The expansion included:

The institution needed a complete furniture solution that could withstand decades of rigorous daily use by thousands of students while remaining within their sanctioned procurement budget. The project required manufacturing, delivering, and installing all furniture before the start of the new academic semester.

Client Requirements

The university's facilities committee outlined four specific requirements:

• Extreme Structural Durability: The furniture had to be effectively vandal-proof, meaning students could not disassemble, bend, or break any component during normal or rough use.
• Heavy-Duty Library Shelving: Double-sided shelving units capable of holding heavy academic volumes without shelf deflection over time.
• Ergonomic Faculty Seating: Appropriate seating for professors spending extended hours grading papers and preparing lectures.
• Fire Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to safety standards, meaning no flammable adhesives or upholstery materials that could contribute to fire spread.

Site Challenges

Educational furniture faces a category of physical abuse that commercial office furniture rarely encounters:

• Students leaning back on two chair legs
• Attempts to unscrew and disassemble components
• Slamming of writing surfaces
• Lateral forces well beyond standard design limits

Any furniture relying on bolt-on assembly eventually loosens and fails in this environment. Additionally, we had to navigate the logistics of delivering over 800 bulky desks from our Ahmedabad factory to Vadodara (110 km away) and installing them across 30 classrooms while construction crews were still finishing interior painting.

Planning and Consultation Process

Our institutional sales team visited the Vadodara campus to measure classrooms, document door widths for transport, and assess the library layout. We worked with the university's architecture consultant to determine optimal desk configurations:

Materials Used

The classroom desk frames were fabricated from 16-gauge CRCA steel tubing, which is substantially thicker than standard commercial desks, providing rigidity against lateral and vertical forces.

• Tamper-Proof Joints: All steel joints were MIG welded. There are no exposed bolts or screws that students can disassemble.
• Writing Surfaces: 18mm high-density pre-laminated MDF with 2mm PVC edge banding and rounded corners for safety.

Installation and Logistics

Transporting 800 desks and 60 library racks required careful planning. We dispatched the order in 8 truckloads over a 5-day period.
